A national syndicated variety talk show had reached the capacity of their Avid shared storage system. They had been using Avid ISIS disk storage to support real-time editing and for general purpose storage requirements (like work-in-progress and ever-green content). One of their options was to purchase more ISIS storage. Due to the high cost of that approach an alternative option was needed. The second option was a solution to move the content not required for immediate editing to lower cost general purpose storage and then retrieve specific projects or clips when required.. a Post-Production Off-Load solution.

MTMP’s Solution
The MTMP solution integrated an Avid content aware application providing both Avid content analytics and data-mover functionality with an LTFS/LTO tape NAS solution. The combined solution identifies the appropriate Avid project data & file elements and transfers that selected data from the ISIS to the tape NAS (and back). The NAS appliance copies the incoming files to its disk cache and to its LTFS/LTO tape library based on user established policies.
The project package resides on the cache for a determined length of time while the project is also stored permanently on LTO tape in the automated library. The appliance presents a persistent directory (folder/file) view of all the projects copied to it. Hence, when the show needs to restore a project back to the ISIS the Avid aware application retrieves it transparently from the appliance whether the files are on disk cache or tape. Thousands of dollars were saved from having to purchase additional high-speed shared Avid storage while creating a very fast active archive with a Post-Production Off-Load solution from MTMP.
